Three generations of deep-seated family tradition and passion for wine united with modern technology and contemporary techniques. That is our recipe for fresh, exciting wines of solid, fruity character, longevity and pleasurable drinkabilty.
At the Hupfeld estate we concentrate on the classic grape varieties of the Rheingau, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Our grapevines are nestled on 2.5 hectares of vineyards, located throughout the villages of Oestrich-Winkel and Johannisberg.
All vineyards, whether on the steeper hills in Geisenheim or the gentler inclines of Oestrich, are kissed by the sun on their southward-facing slopes, ensuring the best ripening conditions for the fruit. The deep, rich soils and distinctive microclimate in our classified vineyards yield full-bodied wines destined for aging, unfolding their finest bouquets as they mature.
In 1907 Henner Hupfeld left his hometown and his family business behind him to follow his dream: to own a winery in the Rheingau. Generations of tradition in the hauling business had brought the Hupfelds to the Rheingau on a regular basis, bringing potash to cargo ships on the Rhine and taking loads of wine back in their horse carts to northern Hesse. Yet Henner Hupfeld’s heart yearned to stay in the beautiful Rhine valley where its unique, vibrant flair has been influenced by the ever-present culture of wine-growing for much more than a millennium.
The second generation of Hupfelds, Arndt-Richard, expanded the winery’s acreage, acquiring excellent vineyards such as the Hölle in Johannisberg and the Hasensprung in Winkel, as well as the Lenchen in Oestrich, all of which have joined ranks with the prized First Growth vineyards.
In 1973 the Königin Victoriaberg vineyards in Hochheim, whose name commemorates a personal visit by Queen Victoria in the 19th century, joined with the Hupfeld estate through Arndt-Richards marriage to Irmgard Neus. After settling into a well-earned retirement in 1990, their children, Wolfram and Henning Hupfeld, assumed responsibility for the wineries.
Wolfram Hupfeld, a certified technician in enology, devoted his winemaking skills to the vineyards in the central part of the Rheingau, while his brother took over the Hochheim vineyards. Today Wolfram Hupfeld continues to manage the Hupfeld Estate with hands-on personal care of all areas of vinification.

Our opening hours (open by season only): Friday thru Monday at 5 pm, Sundays and bank holidays at 3 pm. The “vinotheque” tasting room opens Friday thru Sunday at 6 pm.
